Twin Peaks Series 2 Episode 2 – Coma

Is that a barbershop quartet behind Cooper and Albert (Kyle MacLachlan & Miguel Ferrer) at breakfast?! Albert has returned to Twin Peaks because of his colleague Agent Wyndham Earle, who is either now in an insane asylum, or has disappeared, I couldn’t quite follow. I’m guessing he has escaped from an insane asylum.

The guy (Mak Takano) looking for Josie is following Cooper, watching him at breakfast. Who is this guy? It seems he’s being set up as a creepy bad guy, so in reality he’ll be all wholesome and well-meaning.

Donna (Lara Flynn Boyle) is delivering Meals on Wheels to an old lady (Frances Bay). I recognise her from somewhere, but she’s got so many familiar credits that I can’t pinpoint which one, and she’s giving generic old lady vibes. Argh! Forget the old lady, there’s a surprise child in a suit in the corner, clicking his fingers and summoning cream corn from across the room! I legitimately thought he looked like a young David Lynch, so it’s fitting that he’s played by Lynch’s son, Austin Jack Lynch. It’s the hair. Donna writes a note for Laura’s friend, Mr. Smith next door, but we don’t get to see the note, which is frustrating. We do see him twitching the blinds though.

Ronnette (Phoebe Augustine) awoken from her coma, visited by Cooper and Truman (Michael Ontkean). They have some difficulty operating the too-tall hospital chairs. They show Ronette a drawing of a man, supposed to be Leo? It garners no response, but she convulses in terror at the drawing of the long-haired Wildman.

Ben and Jerry (Richard Beymer & David Patrick Kelly) have the two mill ledgers and an open fireplace. Debating which one to burn – real bad one or fake good one, don’t want to burn Jerry’s smoked cheese in the shape of a pig, so burn some marshmallows instead. “Where are those hickory sticks?!” They’ll need Pete to sign anything official as they believe Catherine to be dead.

Andy (Harry Goaz) is struggling with fingers full of tape, putting up Wildman wanted poster. He’s got tape in his hair, the poor fool. Log Lady Margaret (Catherine E. Coulson) sits next to Major Briggs (Don S. Davis), admonished for spitting her pitch gum previously. These two seem from entirely different phases of existence, so I must share their conversation:
“My log has something to tell you, do you know it?”
“I don’t think we’ve been introduced.”
“I don’t introduce my log, do you hear it?”
“I do not.”
“I’ll translate: “Deliver the message” “
Bobby’s dream-denouncing military father seems quite accepting of this lunatic.

Lucy (Kimmy Robertson) is having problems with a fly, Andy wants to talk to Lucy. Doctors have told him he’s sterile, despite her being pregnant. “Why are you having one and how?”

Oooooh, Hank (Chris Mulkey) used to be a Bookhouse Boy, one of the best. Lucy makes her customary meal (donuts) of transferring a call from Ben to Harry, Ben seems relatively unphased that AUDREY IS MISSING and has been for two days. No, my sweet Audrey!

Silver fox Leland (Ray Wise) is being a good boy, called Iceland to let them know about the mill fire, trying to be helpful but may have scuppered the whole deal. Leland is very distracted by the wanted poster of the wildman, seems to know him, he lived next door?! Ben instructs Jerry, possibly jokingly but unclear, to kill Leland.

Leo (Eric DaRe) has Robin Williams’ chest hair. The bullet has been successfully removed from his spine, but he’s still in a coma, and lost a lot of blood. Might be paralysed. “We can maintain his current state”. He’s a suspect in several felonies. Doc (Warren Frost) walks Shelley (Madchen Amick) out, camera zooms in on Leo’s face, doesn’t move. I expected his eyes to pop open, of course.

Lucy receives an anonymous call for Harry, she refuses to transfer it if they don’t say who they are, so she hangs up on them.

Oh, Audrey not properly missing, Ben just still doesn’t know she’s at One Eyed Jacks. Latest customer likes to be tied up in a robe, on his back on a chaise longue, whilst someone vacuums around him. It’s Emory (Don Amendolia)! Audrey (Sherilyn Fenn) makes use of the situation, strangles him whilst he’s tied up. “I’m Audrey Horne and I get what I want.” Emory confesses to Audrey that he recruited Laura and Ronette, that Ben owns OEJ. “Laura always got her way” – so her own death was what she wanted?

Shelley and Bobby (Dana Ashbrook) hanging out in the car. Bobby made a call pretending to be Leo’s cousin, Leo going to get disability checks, $5k a month, which Shelley can pocket as long as Leo stays at home. Shelley concerned about paying bills, Bobby want to run off and lead a new way of life. I’m more of a Shelley.

Major Briggs visits Cooper in his hotel room, Cooper in his pyjamas and the major of course in his full uniform, like always. He delivers the message. His confidential job involves the maintenance of deep space monitors, aimed at galaxies beyond our own. Usually receives just radio waves and gibberish, until Thursday night/Friday morning, when Cooper was shot, gibberish changes to “The owls are not what they seem”. Then, later, “Cooper Cooper Cooper.”

James (James Marshall) playing guitar for Donna and Maddy (Sheryl Lee), singing breathily, the girls join in as backing vocals. What. Donna is making serious eyes at James, whilst Maddy is possibly singing herself to sleep, then joins in making eyes at James, and he seems more interested in making them back at Maddy than Donna. Presumably sees Laura there, his ex. Repeating “Just you and I together forever in love” not a good song. Donna rushes off, James follows, Donna kisses him. Donna receives a call from Harold Smith (Mr. Smith, returning her call, wants to meet).

Maddy has a vision of the Wildman (Frank Silva), or is she actually seeing him in the lounge?

She screams as she sees him climbing over the furniture to get to her, but there’s nothing there when Donna and James return. I am not a fan of this man, get him off my screen.

Argh! Go away!

Ronette thrashing in bed, blurry faced person in black and blue striding towards her, looks kind of like Cooper but over-exposed, “The owls are not what they seem”, she sees an owl superimposed over the Wildman?

The striding blue figure is the Wildman aggressively chewing the air. Seriously, let’s not have this guy in the show, I find his mere presence to be utterly upsetting.

Audrey calls Cooper in tears, “Why aren’t you here?” She tells Cooper she’s coming home now, until Blackie (Victoria Catlin) hangs up the phone and tells her she’s in trouble.

New mysteries:
What’s up with this Wyndham Earle character?
What’s with the magic Tremond kid?
Who is the Wildman? How does Leland know him? – This presumably must be the third man from Laura’s death night, so it isn’t Leland? Damn.
Who was trying to call Harry?
If the owls are not what they seem, what are they?
Why can Maddy see the Wildman, but James and Donna can’t?
How do we keep this guy from being in future episodes?

Old Mysteries:
What happened to Laura?
Who assaulted Ronette?
Who is the “J” Laura was anxious about meeting? – Cooper theorising it’s James.
Who was the shadowy figure behind Leo in the woods?
What did any of Cooper’s dream mean?
Who is the man in the red Corvette? – Some “Bob” fella. Is that the Wildman?
Who is the third man seen on the night of Laura’s murder? – Seems to be this Wildman guy.
Who is the father of Lucy’s child? – Probably Andy.
Who attacked Jacoby?
Who shot Cooper?
Is the Waiter real? – Is he Bob? Or an old Wildman?
What did any of Cooper’s new dream mean?
Why did Leland’s hair turn white?
Where are Josie and Catherine?
Who is the guy looking for Josie?
