In the July 2017 issue of Empire magazine (Issue #338) the magazine held one of their semi-regular reader polls to determine the greatest 100 movies of all time. I’m already making my way through a few of the past iterations of this list, so figured I may as well tack this one on there too! As part of the poll the Empire team also contacted some of the greatest or most readily available directors working today, and requested their individual top 10 lists as well, so seeing as the voted-for top 100 didn’t really add much I’m not already going to cover (the only new additions are Interstellar, La La Land, Captain America: Civil War and Arrival, at least two of which I expect to appear in the 1001 List later this year) then I figured why not add all the director lists too? It turns out there’s some pretty big reasons why, but it’s too late, I’ve made the decision, so at some point I’ll be watching a bunch of movies I never thought I would, such as the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (thanks Adam Wingard) the entire Pink Panther franchise (cheers Matthew Vaughn) and a bunch of movies with numbers in the title, because Garth Jennings is a sadist.
