Twin Peaks Series 2 Episode 10 – Dispute Between Brothers

“Three days later” – it’s the first between-episodes time jump! The day of Leland’s funeral. “That man is gone… forever.” “So is everything I love” Cooper and Sarah (Kyle MacLachlan & Grace Zabriskie). Sarah is missing an earring, “Leland always found the other earring”. Brutal small moment of lost intimacy.

The wake, a lot of food. Nadine (Wendy Robie) is still in child mode, marvelling at her own shiny shoes. Very childlike performance, good job Robie. Hank (Chris Mulkey) is being a good guy (performative?) fixes Sarah a plate, but she doesn’t want it. Donna (Lara Flynn Boyle) talks to Big Ed (Everett McGill), James rode away blaming himself and hasn’t been seen since, fine by me.

Jacoby (Russ Tamblyn) has returned, and of course is wearing a vibrant ensemble to a wake. Cooper planning to take a couple of weeks off, join Major Briggs (Don S. Davis) for an evening of night fishing. Nadine concerned boys can see a reflection of her underwear in her shoes.

Two old guys (Tony Jay & John Boylan) are bickering at the food table, broken up by Harry (Michael Ontkean) and Big Ed, who are these two? The mayor Dwayne and his newspaper editor brother Dougie, some sort of long-running feud. Cooper: “Harry, I’m really gonna miss this place.” – I’m sensing he’s not going anywhere.

Oh boy, Big Ed and Jacobi are trying to enrol Nadine in school. I’m enjoying this storyline, I just hope it connects with everything else at some point.

Audrey (Sherilyn Fenn) comes to Cooper’s room one last time, “You save my life then break my heart.” His last work-based relationship ended in her dying, so no more. They once again agree to be friends, but Audrey once again seems incapable. “There’s only one problem with you, you’re perfect.”

Bobby (Dana Ashbrook) is really very dumb, thinks he’s going to blackmail Ben Horne (Richard Beymer) into giving him an easy, well-paying, full time, long-running job. What a fool.

Catherine (Piper Laurie) comes to see Harry. “Excuse me for saying, but aren’t you dead?” She claims she was saved by a guardian angel, guided to safety from the fire to a well-stocked pantry, only returned as ran out of tuna.

Dick Tremayne Designer Menswear (Ian Buchanan) given up smoking, now seems fully on board with being a father, wants to focus on something other than himself. Hawk (Michael Horse) walks past the conversation shaking his head, confronts Andy (Harry Goaz) about eavesdropping. All whilst Lucy (Kimmy Robertson) up a ladder changing a fluorescent light bulb. Andy steps in, joins them both on the ladder, wants them all to be friends. Dick Tremayne Designer Menswear has such an expressive mouth.

“There’s a frying pan full of steelhead trout out there with my name on it” Cooper leaving to go fishing, Harry gifts him “A green-butt skunk” self-tied fly, and a Bookhouse Boy sew-on badge. Gives proper handshake goodbye to everyone, just before a Mountie (Gavan O’Herlihy) arrives with FBI agent Roger Hardy (Clarence Williams III), with news that Cooper is suspended effective immediately, without pay. Interesting. Turns out there’s an internal affairs investigation into Cooper, as the act of rescuing Audrey required going across the border into Canada, and Cooper’s motives are questioned given his friendship with Audrey.

Bobby shows up without an appointment with Ben, he can fit him in next month maybe, Bobby spiralling out a little. Audrey gets him in first, he sticks his chewing gum to the doorframe, ewww, Ben immediately throws Bobby out with goons. Bobby offers to take Audrey out for ice cream to repay the favour she request a “Cone, I like to lick.” I’m not on board with another love triangle, especially one that involves two women fancying Bobby fucking Briggs.

Cooper lured Jacques Renault across the border, where he was wounded, arrested, then murdered. Then he crossed again and a bunch of people died. Bureau investigating Cooper’s involvement with the deaths and may have screwed up a months-long prepared sting by the mounties, the cocaine from which is now missing. Roger requires Cooper’s gun and badge, and gives him 24 hours to build his defence as the DEA coming in. “Agent Cooper is the finest lawman I’ve ever known” Harry no plans to cooperate with taking Cooper down.

Nadine excels at cheerleader tryouts, even throws a guy into the volleyball net. She should’ve enrolled at the X-academy. Is anyone finding this odd and looking into it?

Shelley (Madchen Amick) alone with Leo (Eric DaRe), he starts moving when she’s on the phone, as she’s having doubts about the whole scheme.

The mystery critic M. T. Wentz has apparently spoken about the Double-R, it is Vivian (JAne Greer)! What an awful person and mother! “I wanted to give you a good review, this is just not a good restaurant.” Bloody hell, that’s harsh.

Hank wants Ernie (James Booth) to steal some of Vivian’s money. Introduces Ernie to Jean Renault (Michael Parks) at One-Eyed Jacks, Ernie known as “The Professor”, great with numbers. Jean needs $125,000 immediately. Suitcase full of cocaine for Ernie to deal with. Jean insists Ernie must gamble at the casino to work with them, “We all gamble here, we must enjoy life” Is that the Mountie working with Jean? Involved in framing Cooper as vengeance for getting Jacques killed. “I want him… crucified”

Harry wakes up to noise outside, it’s Josie (Joan Chen)! She’s back!

Cooper and Maj. Briggs (out of uniform!) toasting marshmallows on sticks on a campfire. Briggs starts telling Cooper about the White Lodge, Cooper goes for a wee in the woods, Briggs hears an owl, so does Cooper (is the owl BOB?) flash of light, hooded figure in the distance, Briggs shouts for Cooper, Cooper comes running but the major nowhere to be seen, disappeared into the white light?

New mysteries:
Where’d James go? – Who cares?
What happened to Maj. Briggs? – Has he become possessed by Bob? He has far less hair to turn white than Leland did.

Old Mysteries:
Who is the father of Lucy’s child? – Either Andy or Dick Tremayne Designer Menswear, time may tell.
Who attacked Jacoby?
Who shot Cooper?
Is the Waiter real?
What’s up with this Wyndham Earle character?
What’s with the magic Tremond kid?
Who was trying to call Harry at the police station?
If the owls are not what they seem, what are they? – I’m going with the owls (some or all, unsure) are physical representations of spirits not possessing people.
Why does Nadine think she’s 18? Why is she super-strong now?
Who is M. T. Wentz? – Yep, it’s Vivian. I’m shocked Norma doesn’t have a regular appointment with Jacoby based on the kind of childhood she must’ve had.
Who is Cousin Jonathan / Mr. Lee, really?
Why did Wyndham Earle send Cooper a chess move?
Is Hank going to blackmail Ernie? – Yes.
Is Ernie really going straight, or is it an act? – Doesn’t seem to matter at this point, Hank has him blackmailed.
Where did Bob go? Is he an owl now?
Why were Bobby, Leo and Big Ed brought to the Poirot reveal scene?
