Harry (Michael Ontkean) is in bed in a drunken stupor, is Jones (Brenda Strong) coming onto him in his sleep? She gently caresses a bottle at her hip, dabs some of the contents on his lips and hers, then they kiss. He sees her as Josie (Joan Chen)! Then she pulls out the wristwatch wire and chokes him! He manages to overpower and punch her out, then cut to the waterfall – did he have sex with her unconscious body? (I think at this point the cut-to-a-waterfall-symbolising-sex thing might just be in my head.)

Audrey (Sherilyn Fenn) delivers room service to Jack (Billy Zane), I’m already done with their incessant flirting, but at least she’s not flirting with Bobby anymore. “If you bring a hammer, make sure you bring some nails too.”

Jones (Wait, ANOTHER J!?!?) is locked up, demands for the Twin Peaks South African embassy. “Why would Eckhardt want me dead?” “Sexual jealousy.” “Oh, yeah.” Harry nods in understanding. Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan) has an excellent hangover cure, describe disgusting food to make the hungover person throw up – near frozen tomato juice with oysters, grits smothered in gravy and anchovies etc. Harry receives a bonsai tree, assumes it’s from Josie, presumably before she died. Doc (Warren Frost) informs Harry and Cooper that Windom visited his house. Fresh chess move, they’ll publish their one today. Last thing a hungover Harry needs is a shouted reedy voice, so of course Gordon Cole (David Lynch) is back, heck yeah.

Windom and Leo (Kenneth Welsh & Eric DaRe) listening in on the bugged bonsai. Cole reporting loudly on Windom’s drugs for schizophrenia, the same as Gerard used (where is Gerard, anyway? looking for Bob? No-one else is!). The easiest conversation to pick up, two guys yelling and enunciating at each other next to the tree, laughable. Turns out Earle was investigating UFOs, like Major Briggs. Cole also reissues Cooper with his badge, new gun, back in the FBI. “We shall pursue, capture and incarcerate.” Then go for breakfast.
Windom gets Leo to pick three cards. Queen of clubs with Donna’s head, Queen of diamonds with Audrey’s, queen of clubs with Shelley’s. Any suit significance? King of spades has Cooper’s head. Windom pulls Queen of hearts from behind Leo’s ear. Faceless Queen of hearts put on the Miss Twin Peaks poster, executed by the Joker, Cooper gets to watch. WAIT, is Nadine going to be the Queen of Hearts? Who else would it be? Norma? Annie? Lucy?

Donna (Lara Flynn Boyle) followed her mother to the hotel, secretly, meeting with Ben (Richard Beymer). Nadine and Mike (Wendy Robie & Gary Hershberger) checking out. “How was everything?” “Unbelievable.” Donna asks Audrey if she knows why their parents are talking. Audrey’s little smile when she thinks about using the secret spying tunnel. Eileen (Mary JO Deschanel) trying to deliver letters to Ben. Letters are from Ben to Eileen from a former romance, he evidently still thinks about it, she does not want to revisit it. Why is she offloading the letters now?
Cole also trying to make Harry throw up, raw meat with egg cracked on it. Cole just yelling about how pretty Shelley (Madchen Amick) is, well within her earshot. “That’s the kind of girl that makes you wish you spoke a little French. I feel like my stomach is filled with a team of bumblebees.” Shelley talks to him at a regular volume, and he hears her perfectly, clear as a bell, even without the hearing aids, but he cant hear the log lady (Catherine E. Coulson) at all. “Would you like some pie?” “Massive, massive quantities, and a glass of water, my socks are on fire.” Sweet. Odd, but sweet. Is Gordon’s hearing loss reversed by lust?

Cooper drawing the twin peaks symbol on a napkin. Debates bird species, corrected by Annie (Heather Graham), who recommends “Teetotalism and prayer” for a hangover, one of those people. Harry clearly sees chemistry between Cooper and Annie. Harry orders a chicken pot pie for breakfast, what is this place? Harry turns the tables, “How long you been in love with her?” Cooper tells her a bad joke, she laughs at it, so she’s into him too. Cole and Cooper both in love, Harry’s former love barely cold in the morgue, it feels a little mean for Cooper to be rubbing it in his face like that. Napkin drawing reminds Annie and Harry of Owl Cave.
James sent Donna a postcard from San Francisco, “next stop Mexico”. Promises he’ll be back with stories, I’m fine if he’s not. Donna asks her father how her mother and Ben know each other, he clearly doubles down on lying that it’s about a charity fundraiser, then flowers are delivered for Eileen with no card.

Windom is disguise in the library as Edward Perkins, engineers bumping into Audrey, doing research on civil disobedience. She recites a Shelley poem she received, presumably from him, tells her she looks like a queen.
Annie asking Shelley about Cooper, but denies that she’s interested in him. This is the kind of stuff I’m not here for.

Lucy (Kimmy Robertson) is once again impressed by Andy’s (Harry Goaz) handiness, in full spelunking gear coming down from the ceiling. He helped her in the fundraiser debacle, “Unlike a certain Dick we all know”. He spelunks right past her, through the floor? Harry and Cooper also gearing up for a mining expedition.
Ben’s son (?) IS still dressed as a Native American, shooting buffalo targets? Ben telling Audrey he wants to keep her in the business. “When have I ever been anything but a sleazy rapacious heel?” Some self-awareness from Ben. Wants her to eventually respect him. “Daddy, I’m your man.” He’s organised a plane to Seattle for her to attend a breakfast talk with environmentalists, just as she and Jack were busy getting acquainted. “I am filled to the brim with goodness, like a Christmas tree, but when I look in the mirror, I have to face the fact that I really don’t know how to be good.” Jack tells him to “always tell the truth, tell the hardest truth first.” Jack tells him he’s falling in love with Audrey, man of his word. Ben offers him a carrot in celebration.

Andy, Harry, Cooper and Hawk (Michael Horse) at the cave, Andy not very good at this rock climbing lark, even when barely off the ground. The symbol is carved on the cave wall. Three diamonds combined with the twin peaks, topped with a fire. Shot of an owl. An owl flies into the cave, Andy takes a swing at it with his pickaxe, gets it stuck in the wall, causing one of the diamonds in the symbol to OPEN, WHAT. A pole emerges with a new symbol on the end, looks like a simplified own in flight, or a diamond in front of two mountains, twin peaks, if you will. As it’s a straight-line carving, the diamond could also be a circle, maybe a lake or a cave, a hole of some kind? Owl flies out of the cave. Is that Bob?

Annie goes to the bar, orders a drink but unsure what, bartender (Jack McGee) recommends a rum and tonic. Cooper dictating to his Dictaphone, until he sees Annie at the bar. Feel like she’s maybe 17, looks so young. He notices the scar on her wrist again, stares at it until she feels uncomfortable, she doesn’t want to talk about it. “Maybe I can help, if you want me to.” “Some people think I’m strange.” “I know the feeling.”
Windom exploring the cave, also finds the pole with a symbol, and the same symbol inverted on the opposite wall, that the others seem to have missed. He forces the pole to rotate in the hole. The wall shakes, spits the pickaxe out and collapses?! I reckon Windom’s going to be fine though.
New mysteries:
Why did Jones try to kill Harry? – Revenge for Thomas being dead? But Harry didn’t kill him, Josie did so maybe Jones is just trying to release some vengeful tension, or Catherine employed her to kill Harry, because he might be able to link her to the deaths of Thomas and Josie?
Who is going to win Miss Twin Peaks? If it’s Audrey, Shelley or Donna, will that ruin Windom’s plan for having four different faces on his queen cards? – Nadine feels like the funniest possible winner, and would allow for some kind of specific outcome for her thinking she’s a teenager.
Why does being around Shelley improve Gordon’s hearing? – I think this is just going to be an unresolved little comedic beat, I don’t think she has the ability to heal people with her smile, as much fun as that could be.
What has Windom found in the cave?
