Cooper, Harry, Andy and Hawk (Kyle MacLachlan, Michael Ontkean, Harry Goaz & Michael Horse) are back in the cave, find Windom’s tracks and evidence that he’s been there and tampered with the wall carving, or “pentagraph” as Cooper calls it, requests Andy do a full carving.

Windom (Kenneth Welsh) back in his cabin, recounting his experience at the White Lodge, didn’t enjoy it. “This wretched place of saccharine excess”, he preferred its exact opposite, there’s another guy there with spike-studded clothes, it’s Ted Raimi! Was he the guy at the end of the other epiosde? I don’t think so. “Hey man, your story’s cool, but you promised me beer!” Windom’s lodge has a diagram of the cave carving on his small TV.

Pete (Jack Nance) is ruminating on his chess game whilst also composing a poem, struggling with a rhyme for “bloom”. “Stop your incessant moping and give me a hand with this damn box.” Box left by Thomas to Catherine (Piper Laurie), she has so far been unable to open it. Doesn’t have a key, or even a keyhole. “It’s a puzzle box! I saw one of these at a craft emporium in Guam. This could take years.”
Bobby (Dana Ashbrook) is back with Shelley (Madchen Amick), FFS Shelley, give up on this twirp. “Beautiful people get what they want, when’s the last time you saw a beautiful blonde go to the electric chair?” Bobby wants to profit from Shelley’s beauty, suggests she enter the Miss Twin Peaks pageant (after Norma, Windom, everyone else already suggested it, but I’m guessing Bobby would still try and take credit for giving her the idea) she dismisses it, he grabs her wrist and shows his true colours. “Don’t argue with me, Bobby’s in charge, you understand?” Shelley, kill him. Or at the very least, call the cops on him. I think she’s recognising the signs from her relationship with Leo though, so that’s something.

Lana (Robyn Lively) is at the diner with the mayor (John Boylan), they’ve apparently had quite the fun few days together. Is she going to be Miss Twin Peaks?! Didn’t even think of her. She wants to win the Miss Twin Peaks contest, he’s a judge, wants him to fix it for her to win. “It would be wrong.” “Darling, it would be love, that’s all.” So her witchcraft can only go so far? She can only bewitch men, can’t magically encourage them to vote for her, I see.

Cooper invites Annie (Heather Graham) to accompany him on a nature study. “When I talk to you I get a tingling sensation In my toes and in my stomach.” Shelley quotes the poem in front of Cooper, he recognises it. It’s a poem he once sent to Caroline. Cooper recognises Leo’s handwriting on the poem.
Major Briggs (Don S. Davis) correcting Andy’s carving drawing, both recreating it from memory? “Complementary verses of the same song; I can’t hear it yet.” Cooper asks for Briggs’ help, tell him all he knows of Windom’s work on Project Blue Book. Briggs’ security clearance has been revoked after his disappearance, but he has dreamed of the cave carving before, seems willing to help if it’ll prevent further loss of life. Looking at the pentagraph drawing, he sees a hooded figure silhouette in the drawing, and in the stars, then in the fire.

Dick Tremayne Designer Menswear (Ian Buchanan) has a nose bandage after the pine marten incident. Introduces himself as Richard Tremayne Men’s Fashions, title change. Ben (Richard Beymer) offers to cover medical expenses, Dick requests worker’s compensation as well. “Capital, Mr. Horne, I’ll alert my attorney.” “Sometimes the urge to do bad is nearly overpowering.” Is Bob in Ben? Drastic recent personality change, he was nearby when Bob left Leland, maybe he’s acting good to cover up that he’s really possessed by a demon spirit or whatever the heck Bob is. Ben is also chomping on carrots all the time now too, not sure if that’s a symptom of being possessed.

Windom and Leo encasing the party dude in a giant block of paper mache. “How do I get out of this thing?” “You don’t.” Windom requests an arrow, Leo refuses, Windom shocks him a couple of times via the shock collar until he complies, fetches the arrow. Leo developing a conscious in the face of truer madness? Windom crossbows Ted Raimi in the midriff through paper mache, dead.

Miss Twin Peaks judging committee is, of course, the three oldest white men, Doc (Warren Frost), the mayor and Pete. Why Pete? Ben addresses them with a plea that it not just be about beauty, also include mind, spirit, value, ideas. Proposes a theme, the topic this year should be how to save the forests. Pete opposes, will go against Catherine’s wishes, but others on board. Candidates signing up, starts with Lana. Shelley nervous about the speech, Bobby agrees to be her speech writer. Donna (Lara Flynn Boyle) entering as well, so is Nadine (Wendy Robie), called it!
Bobby shows some concerned that Mike (Gary Hershberger) is dating Nadine, “It’s not what you think. Do you have any idea what the combination of sexual maturity and superhuman strength can result in?” Whispers to Bobby, gets a VERY loud reaction from Bobby.

Harry goes to Catherine for information on Josie, needs to understand, doesn’t realise Josie’s downfall was essentially orchestrated by Catherine. She shows Harry the puzzle box, says it might have something to do with Josie. Pete returns, bragging about all the beauties who’ve signed up for the pageant. Between them they drop the box and it opens, revealing symbols of an eclipse cycle. Pete drops it again to see if it opens any further, but no such luck.

Cooper and Annie on a lake date, talk about her youth growing up there, pries as to why she joined the convent, she declines to discuss it, he politely agrees. They dance around actually mentioning suicide attempts (“Dark hole you can fall into”), he expresses empathy, understanding, had a similar situation before, so they kiss a couple of times. Windom watching them in fishing disguise.

Dick Tremayne hosting another benefit to stop the Ghostwood movement, wine tasting. Dressed-up Lana, dressed-down Lucy (Kimmy Robertson) assist with the pouring, Andy not been there before, starts drinking before its time and admonished by Dick in front of everyone. Dick instructs everyone to examine the nose of the wine, dips his bandage in it. “And then we spit” Andy swallows.

Cole (David Lynch) talking with Shelley: “This world of Twin Peaks seems to be filled with beautiful women, although only one I can hear!” Plenty of pie between them. Cole requests a kiss from Shelley “If I don’t kiss you now, I’ll regret it for the rest of my days.” Bobby of course walks in and sees them. Record scratch! “You are witnessing a front three quarter view of two adults sharing a tender moment. Take another look sonny, it’s gonna happen again.” Shelley gladly kisses again in front of Bobby, good. Bobby a shit, Cole is a good 20+ years older than Shelley, but at least he’s a nice guy.

Dick Tremayne still infatuated with Lana over Lucy, exacerbated by their disparity in wine-tasting flavour-discerning abilities. Lucy taking part in the wine-tasting despite being pregnant, so she spits it all out in Dick’s face. Good for her, it’s pretty clear she’ll be choosing Andy.
Cooper drinking by the hotel fire, joined by Jack (Billy Zane), “Love is Hell.” They discuss the merits of love, not realising Jack is talking about Audrey, to her Cooper is basically her ex. “Feels like someone is taking a crowbar to my heart.” Jack receives a telegram, informs the hotel staff that he’ll be checking out.
At dinner, Donna asks Eileen (Mary Jo Deschanel) how she knows Ben Horne, Doc builds on the lie about the environmental charity, but Donna let’s them know she sees through it all. Tells her mother she’s entered Miss Twin Peaks, use the scholarship money to study overseas. So of the 3 judges, one has a daughter in it, the other a fiancée.

Cooper arrives at bomb scare on a bandstand, big wooden panels that obviously hide the latest dead body in paper mache, its a big chess pawn! Got to admire Windom’s showmanship, must’ve taken ages, what if Leo hadn’t been there to help? Cooper clears the area and shoots it open from a distance, revealing the sign “Next time it’ll be someone you know.” Who will it be?!
New mysteries:
What’s the gift from Thomas? – I’m assuming there’s more to it than a smaller box with eclipse symbols on it.
Why has Jack got to leave? – I don’t mind. As much as I love Billy Zane, he’s just kind of stuck in a lovesick flirting cycle with Audrey.
Old Mysteries:
Who is the father of Lucy’s child? – At this point it doesn’t seem to matter, she’s gone off Dick (and he’s moved on too), so I predict she’ll pick Andy whether he’s the biological father or not, and he’ll be a good guy and fill the role regardless.
Who attacked Jacoby?
Is the Waiter real?
What’s with the magic Tremond kid?
Who was trying to call Harry at the police station?
If the owls are not what they seem, what are they?
Why does Nadine think she’s 18? Why is she super-strong now?
Where did Bob go? Is he an owl now?
Why were Bobby, Leo and Big Ed brought to the Poirot reveal scene?
What happened to Maj. Briggs?
What’s the deal with Andrew being alive?
Did Nicky kill his parents? Is he devilish in some way?
Is Lana actually a witch?
Is Windom’s chess game to punish Cooper for something?
How will Bobby screw up Audrey’s plan to get rich? – Bobby seems less and less involved with Audrey these days, good.
What is Windom up to?
What’s in Eckhardt’s trunk? – Was it just this box? Have I been obsessing over a distractingly large and importantly framed trunk for nothing?
Is John Justice “Jack” Wheeler too good to be true?
What caused Josie to die? Why did Cooper see Bob and the dancing man afterwards and, most importantly, why is she now haunting a drawer knob?
Why did Josie’s body weigh so little?
What are Catherine’s plans for Ghostwood?
Who is the guy reading a book?
What’s Jones doing with Harry? – Jones was absent from this episode, will we see her again?
Why did Jones try to kill Harry? – Revenge for Thomas being dead? But Harry didn’t kill him, Josie did so maybe Jones is just trying to release some vengeful tension, or Catherine employed her to kill Harry, because he might be able to link her to the deaths of Thomas and Josie?
Who is going to win Miss Twin Peaks? If it’s Audrey, Shelley or Donna, will that ruin Windom’s plan for having four different faces on his queen cards? – The contestants we know are Donna, Shelley, Nadine, Lana and a bunch of randoms. As Donna and Shelley are already on Windom’s playing cards, that leaves Nadine and Lana, unless Lucy, Audrey or Annie are also going to enter.
What has Windom found in the cave?
