Twin Peaks Series 2 Episode 6 – Demons

Immediate pickup from cliffhanger, Harold (Lenny von Dohlen) is still bleeding from his self-face claw, so if we’re sticking to the one-episode-a-day format then this must’ve happen at the stroke of midnight. “You are unclean, you have contaminated me!” James (James Marshall) storms in, knocks Harold down and they escape, without the diary. Donna (Lara Flynn Boyle) collapses into James’ arms. Donna watches on whilst Harold angry-spritzes his orchids and howls in pain. Never angry-spritz, in most cases you’ll do more harm than good.

Cooper, Harry and Hawk (Kyle MacLachlan, Michael Ontkean & Michael Horse) successfully rescued Audrey (Sherilyn Fenn), but where is the suitcase full of money? Audrey has heroine marks on her arm.

James and Donna (James Marshall & Lara Flynn Boyle) agree that they’re a couple, she convulses at him kissing her neck, they have both seemingly forgotten Maddy ever existed.

Harry and Cooper come to the realisation that Audrey was kept hostage and almost killed by heroine overdose because Cooper got involved outside of his jurisdiction, through some fairly wild leaps in logic. Harry brings Cooper back down from his guilt spiral by reminding him they saved Audrey. Cooper returns the suitcase of money (that’s where it is!) to Ben (Richard Beymer), who seems far more concerned about all the money being there than the wellbeing or location of his recently kidnapped daughter. Cooper clearly suspects Ben, looking for a reaction at the mention of Blackie being killed by Jean Renault (obviously every time this name is said I think of Jean Reno). Ben giving up nothing.

Bobby (Dana Ashbrook) manhandling Leo (Eric DaRe) in his new chair, DaRe doing a great job of remaining static and emotionless to Ashbrook’s hauling him around. After admin fees etc., they only get £700/month, not the $5,000 they expected, not enough if Shelley (Madchen Amick) has to quit her job for the ruse of acting as a full-time carer. Shockingly, this plan seems very poorly thought out.

David Lynch is in this! He plays Gordon Cole, a hearing-impaired replacement for Albert, over-articulating and mis-hearing everything. This is an extremely fun use of him, that great reedy voice cutting through everything. And Hawk found Gerard (Al Strobel)! “Since when is selling shoes a crime?”

Ben consoling Audrey, Audrey’s mother is barely in this show, feel like she should be there too. Audrey requests Cooper take her home, Ben says maybe they should all go together.

Nadine (Wendy Robie) thrilled she got to use a credit card, got the house alone so they can fool around right there, punches Big Ed (Everett McGill) in the gut then throws him on the sofa, leaps on him, he terrified.

Cousin Jonathan (Mak Takano) had sex with Josie (Joan Chen)?! I’m beginning to think (hope) these two aren’t really related, or we’re back on the Incest Express again. The off-screen Mr. Eckard is apparently insisting Josie head back to Hong Kong tonight with whatever she can carry, Jonathan says he’ll kill Harry and Josie if she’s not on the plane that evening.

Oh, James has remembered Maddy exists, he comes to apologise to Maddy sat at the lake. “I want to try to make the way my heart feels last forever.” Maddy says she’s leaving tomorrow, only really came back for Laura’s funeral. They still kiss, but a kiss of goodbye.

Ben and Josie drink a toast “To the fire” by the raging fireplace. Josie requesting the cash Ben owes her, he fobs her off, then informs her of his dossier on her and her ex-husband’s death, she has a corresponding key to a safety deposit box that’ll bury him. Mutually assured destruction, so she redemands the cash. He just so happens to have the cheque from the Tokyo bank for $5M, so Mr. Tojamura isn’t not Josie in disguise.

Shelley and Bobby are Weekend at Bernie‘s-ing Leo in a party hat and sunglasses and a kazoo. They kiss in front of him, and he plays faint kazoo noise on his exhales. Bobby is having fun but Shelley is creeped out a little by the situation, Leo comatose-face-plants into the cake. Leo was/is a despicable piece of shit character, but this is still coming off as quite mean.

“You remind me today of a small Mexican Chi-wow-wow.” Gordon cannot help but talk loudly in secret, easily heard outside the office. Albert concerned Cooper is not up to the job. Delivers a letter to Cooper, P to K-4, opening chess move from Wyndham Earl.

Leland (Ray Wise) is indicted for murder, but Ben wants him back at work as his lawyer WHO RECENTLY MURDERED SOMEONE. Leland is distracted by stuffed animal behind him, collects and pockets some loose fur from it, before he and Ben have an awkward side pat hug.

Harry arrives as Josie and Jonathan are leaving, she introduces Jonathan as her assistant, Lee. Is Jonathan another potential J? Probably not. Definitely not her cousin, though, or her assistant. Harry tries to stop Josie from leaving, tells her he loves her, twice, she walks out anyway.

Mr. Tojamora is Catherine! I’m certain that’s Piper Laurie. I assumed it would be Josie because otherwise the make-up is even more problematic, but it was 1991, so who knows? A serious meeting between Ben and Mr. Tojamora is interrupted by Leland singing Getting to Know You, lounge singer-style, he dances with Ben when he tries to interrupt, they end up duetting. Pete (Jack Nance) at the bar next to Mr. “Tojamura”, spins around “The King & I!” Pete to Tojamura “You’re not from around here, are ya?” This interaction makes me certain it’s Catherine. “Can I buy you a sake? How ’bout a nice cold milk?!”

Gordon analysing Gerard’s drugs, suppress schizophrenia, he’s a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, now goes by the name of Mike, the inhabiting spirit, inside Mr. Gerard, his host. A spirit named Mike, lol. Bob was a former host. “His name is Bob, he’s here for fun.” This is a direction I did not expect. Spiritual parasites, whuh? Was this always the plan with this show? Mike removed host Gerard’s own arm? Purpose is to find and stop Bob, few can see it, only the gifted and the damned. Bob has been near them for nearly 40 years, in a large house surrounded by trees, lots of rooms alike but occupied by different souls. The hotel! OK, I’m fully in with this show.

New mysteries:
Who is Cousin Jonathan / Mr. Lee, really?
Why did Wyndham Earle sending Cooper a chess move?
Why did Leland take the animal fur? – He’s gone fully insane.
If Bob is a spiritual parasite, is he inhabiting a character? If so, who? – Look, not to repeat myself, but Leland is right there. Could also be Ben or Jerry, they’re both fun-loving guys. Maybe Bob was in Leo, and his vacating has caused the coma? Maybe Bob is now in Nadine, causing the super strength?

Old Mysteries:
What happened to Laura?
Who assaulted Ronette?
Who is the “J” Laura was anxious about meeting?
Who was the shadowy figure behind Leo in the woods?
What did any of Cooper’s dream mean?
Who is the third man seen on the night of Laura’s murder? – Gotta be Bob inhabiting someone.
Who is the father of Lucy’s child?
Who attacked Jacoby?
Who shot Cooper?
Is the Waiter real?
What did any of Cooper’s new dream mean?
Why did Leland’s hair turn white? – Because he was inhabited by Bob?
Where is Catherine? – Inside a Mr. Tojamura costume!
What’s up with this Wyndham Earle character?
What’s with the magic Tremond kid?
Who is the Wildman? How does Leland know him? – Wildman is Bob, or a person being possessed by Bob.
Who was trying to call Harry at the police station?
If the owls are not what they seem, what are they? – Are the owls other parasitic spirits?
Why can Maddy see Bob, but James and Donna can’t? – Because Maddy is either gifted or damned. Could be either at this point.
Why can’t Harold Smith go outside?
Why does Nadine think she’s 18? Why is she super-strong now? – Something Bob-related?
Why does Harold have Laura’s diary?
Who is M. T. Wentz?
When are Cooper and Sid going to hook up? – Sid (and the judge) both not present in this episode, where’d they go?
